In this contemporary world, people struggle with different challenges, difficulties and situations that almost look like there is no end in sight for these troubles. However, who do you turn to in times of trouble? The good news is that Jesus Christ is the perfect person to turn to. Looking Unto Jesus is the manual to doing life. In this article, we will explore why you need to keep looking unto Jesus, the benefits and how to look to Jesus.
Why Should You Look Unto Jesus?
Let me share with you a short story. The Just concluded month is not my favourite in any way because I had a lot of down moments and rejection as regards my undergraduate project.
I had always been of the school of thought that “Peace is not the absence of storms, instead it’s the presence of God in those storms.” However, I never knew that those sayings of mine would be tested so soon.
I was affected by it all and I didn’t even know what to do and I had to reach out to my mum for comfort. That blessed day in April, all she said was “Pray about it and trust God or have I taught you another way.”
At that point, I knew my best option was to look unto Jesus and I had to do just that. Gradually, things started falling into place. It was then I remembered that John 15:5 says — “Apart from me you can do nothing.” [NIV]
Also, remember that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. In a world where we face different challenges and obstacles, only Jesus can help you stay focused with your eyes on the ultimate goal.
Hebrews 12:2 admonishes us to — “Look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” [KJV]
What Are The Benefits of Looking Unto Jesus?
Peace
Looking unto Jesus brings about peace in every situation because he has told us in John 14:27 — “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” [KJV]
Hence, When we look to Jesus, we experience a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Strength
On days when you’re weary and weak, looking unto Jesus brings you strength.
In Isaiah 40:31— we read that “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” [NIV]
Thus, looking unto Jesus gives the strength to overcome challenges and keep moving forward.
Paul is an example of someone who looked unto Jesus to overcome all the challenges he faced while carrying out his assignments. No wonder he said In Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” [NKJV]
Guidance
When you look unto Him, be rest assured that you’ll receive direction and guidance just as I received when I needed it.
Mary is an example of someone who trusted in God’s plan and guidance for her life. In Luke 1:38 — she said, “…May your word to me be fulfilled.”
That’s the practicality of what was said in Proverbs 3:5-6 — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”[NLT]
